Writing in Argentina: The Adventures of a Yanqui in Porteñoland
Abstract
In today’s globalized world, it is extremely important to understand and appreciate
different cultures. Travel writing serves the purpose of providing educational
information about a culture while presenting it in a literary fashion. Argentina is a
beautiful nation with a turbulent past; continued political and economic instability
have shaped the culture of its capital, Buenos Aires. The objective of this Honors
thesis is to transport the reader to Buenos Aires and to demonstrate life in
Argentina by synthesizing the political and economic situation with accounts of
daily life. The thesis is a compilation of personal experiences and factual
information gathered during ten months of living in Buenos Aires.
