This thesis shows an artistic expression produced and marketed as an independent music project has the potential to be successful. The project took place under the name “Banshee and the Face”, which resulted in 11 songs and two remixes in an EP1 and a full album. The 11-song album featured a range of genres, including electronic, jazz, and ambient. The album featured vocals by Northern State University graduate Shyla Balo. Otherwise, the most of the project was composed, performed, and recorded independent of a record label by myself. The album was released in early 2012 on many different platforms (including iTunes, physical CDs, and Soundcloud) without any form of live show. Much of the success can be attributed to the many channels of communication available on the Internet. This project is meant to be both an artistic endeavor and a marketing experiment.
