Abstract

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the world drastically, and its impact was monumental. COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, was the virus responsible for causing such mayhem. This contagious virus can enter the body via different routes, live on surfaces for hours, and be transmitted through the air, increasing infection risk. Once it enters the body, it can trick the body into replicating the virus. From this reaction within the body, signs and symptoms follow. While the name indicates a respiratory illness, the virus can inflict injury on other parts of the body. Due to the organ systems involved, there are a variety of signs and symptoms associated with this illness. One of the more peculiar signs and symptoms is related to the involvement of the nervous system. These signs can be agnosia, strokes, blood coagulation, comas, or even altered mental status. In this thesis, articles were reviewed addressing serious neurological complications and the pathophysiology behind them. Moreover, it is unusual to see neurological symptoms with a respiratory virus, so the article highlights several neurological issues. However, as complications arise, more research needs to be conducted to explore other neurological complications associated with the COVID-19 virus.
