Abstract

Passion and perseverance for long-term goal attainment and safety behavior would play a role in influencing sports performance and safety behaviors during competition events. However, it may be challenging for athletes to maintain grit, which consists of consistency, interest, passion, and perseverance to attain long-term goals, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study will examine grit in student-athletes who found ways to participate during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many researchers have explored other aspects of sports and grit in normal circumstances, grit during the COVID-19 pandemic remains to be less researched. We will conduct a quantitative survey among student-athletes at the Des Lacs – Burlington high school, where participants shall be sampled using a random sample technique. The sample population will be asked to participate in infill surveys and participating in semi-structured interviews. We will test the association between grit, perseverance to compete, and student willingness to adapt and comply with new procedures. Our findings will help coaches find innovative ways to allow student-athletes to compete and improve in more restrictive situations.
