Abstract
This past winter break AWOL sent an alternative break to the Twin Cities focusing on the issues of Youth Development. Throughout the week participants in the program volunteered with community organizations working to reduce youth homelessness, youth addiction, and bullying. Volunteering with organizations such as Lutheran Social Services, MN Teen and Adult Challenge, and Pacer participants were able to learn about the some of the root causes which lead into homelessness and addiction, while also learning about the ways in which many of their local communities have been working to manage and mitigate some of these issues. This service-learning experience enabled participants to have a broader and deeper understanding of the challenges that youth encounter, the ways in which these issues often go undetected, and provided them with ways they can take what they've learned and apply it to their home communities
