Abstract
The purpose of this review was to simplify and condense important concepts and considerations in order to understand Age-related macular degeneration. Age-related macular degeneration is one of the top causes of irreversible blindness in the world’s aging population. Family health care providers need to be aware of risk factors associated with this disease along with ways to recognize, refer and slow down the disease progression. This research examined the immunoprivilage component of eye anatomy as it relates to etiology, AMD risk factors, causes, and potential ways to prevent or slow progression of the disease. A total of 30 peer reviewed journal articles are cited.
