Abstract
This literature review outlines the current and emerging research being done for porcine organs being compatible for human organ transplantation. The shortage of organ donations has become a national emergency. Throughout the last 40 years, research models have been developed showing promise for genetically modified porcine organs being successfully transplanted into non-human primates. These research models have led to the development of clinical trials to begin in the near future for porcine to human organ transplants.
